The Open Network (TON), a blockchain closely associated with Telegram, has resumed operations after experiencing an unexpected network outage on May 21. The disruption, which lasted nearly two hours, affected block production and temporarily halted transaction processing across the platform.


TON developers quickly addressed the issue and restored the network to full functionality. In an official statement, the team clarified that the outage stemmed from an internal misconfiguration during scheduled maintenance, not from any malicious activity or security breach.


According to network validators and users, the outage caused delays in transaction confirmations, but no user funds were lost or compromised. The TON Foundation reassured users that all wallet balances and smart contract operations remained intact.


This is the first significant interruption for TON since its relaunch in 2021 under community development, following Telegram’s withdrawal due to regulatory pressure. The recent outage raised concerns among some users, especially given TON’s growing ecosystem and increased integration with Telegram’s services, including the popular wallet bot and mini-apps.


Despite the setback, developers have promised enhanced monitoring and fail-safes to prevent future issues. The quick response and transparent communication helped contain reputational damage, and network activity has since normalized.
