Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced former CEO of FTX, has reportedly been placed in solitary confinement after conducting an unauthorized interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.
A representative from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed to The New York Times on March 7 that Bankman-Fried’s interview was not approved by prison officials, violating strict communication policies for inmates.
“This particular interview was not approved,” the spokesperson stated.
Unauthorized Interview Sparks Punishment
Following the publication of the interview on Carlson’s YouTube channel on March 6—where it quickly amassed over 730,000 views—Bankman-Fried was moved to solitary confinement at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he has been held since August 2023.
Prison rules strictly regulate inmate communications, and unauthorized interviews can lead to severe disciplinary action. Sources close to the situation say this was the reason for Bankman-Fried’s punishment.
During the interview, Bankman-Fried discussed his prison conditions, crypto regulation, and his self-perception, claiming, “I don’t think I’m a criminal.”
