Jack Dorsey, former Twitter CEO and co-founder of Block, has thrown his weight behind White Noise, a secure chat app emphasizing user privacy, even as he unveils his own Bitchat experimentation. This dual approach reinforces his growing interest in decentralized, resilient communication.

🔐 White Noise: Privacy with Usability

White Noise emerges as a polished alternative to mainstream chat apps—integrating advanced encryption, decentralized identity via Nostr, and optional Bitcoin Lightning payments within chat .The app emphasizes end-to-end encryption, forward secrecy, and post‑compromise protection, all without requiring traditional identifiers like phone numbers or emails. Users can communicate across distributed nodes with metadata protection, switching relays if blocked, and soon transact via Lightning.

🚫 Bitchat: Offline Chat over Bluetooth

In parallel, Dorsey published a white paper for Bitchat, a mesh‑network app that uses Bluetooth Low Energy to relay encrypted messages without internet access (turn0news16, turn0news17). Functional across 30 m hops and plans for Wi‑Fi Direct, Bitchat requires no servers, accounts, or permanent IDs. It features ephemeral message storage, password‑protected rooms, and “panic mode” to wipe device memory if needed.

Despite being touted as “secure,” Dorsey admits Bitchat hasn’t undergone external audits, and security researchers have already exposed identity spoofing and encryption flaws in its early builds.
