California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken a sharp dig at Donald Trump’s growing ties with the crypto world by announcing plans for a satirical digital token called the “Trump Corruption Coin.”

Speaking on the Pivot podcast, Newsom said the coin will form part of his “Campaign for Democracy,” a political initiative aimed at strengthening voter outreach and redistricting. Unlike typical meme coins created purely for speculation, Newsom’s coin is positioned as a parody, designed to draw attention to what he describes as the former president’s questionable financial ventures.

“We’re about to put a meme coin out,” Newsom teased, before clarifying, “No, it’s Trump Corruption Coin.” He hinted that the project is not just political satire but also a fundraising mechanism to fuel his campaign’s democratic goals.

Trump has recently embraced cryptocurrency, launching his own digital asset projects and promoting blockchain as part of his political comeback. Newsom’s satirical move underscores the clash between traditional governance and the fast-evolving crypto market, where politics, finance, and internet culture often collide.

If launched, the “Trump Corruption Coin” would be one of the first examples of a U.S. political figure using crypto parody both as a critique and a campaign tool.
